Confessions of a Matchmaker - Part 6

When I first started my career as a matchmaker, I did a lot of work in northern Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan.  The problem with working with people living in those secluded areas, is generally men move up north for work in greater numbers than women which creates a gender imbalance.  This can make finding the right matches more difficult.

I had a lovely young indigenous woman call me to discuss my services.  After hearing the price, she said she would never be able to afford it.

A couple of weeks before, I had a man join who I thought would make a perfect match.  In order to keep everyone happy, I offered her one free introduction.  She was obviously delighted and instantly accepted the offer.  The two of them hit it off right away and ended up getting married.

A couple of months after the wedding a package arrived for me at the post office.  In the package was a beautiful knitted quilt. I don’t know how she knew, but it was my favourite colours.  My children and I used that quilt for years.  As a young girl I had quilted with my grandmother, so I knew all the hard work and love that had gone into the incredibly thoughtful gift.

When people say they can’t afford us I can usually work out a payment plan that is affordable and within budget.  I work as a matchmaker because I love what I do and if I can find a way to make it work for you I will.
